Visa once cancelled, but still started her migration journey with a student visa!
One of our recent clients, Ms G, is a prime example of how even a complex immigration history can be turned around with the right strategy and support.
Ms G holds a Bachelor of Arts and was previously granted a Canadian student visa to study media and communications. However, due to family reasons, she had to withdraw from her course and return to Hong Kong, which led to her visa being cancelled.
In the years that followed, she worked as a freelance event coordinator. Her income was unstable, and she lacked long-term employment records.
Recently, she made the decision to pursue further study as a pathway to migration, applying for an Australian student visa under the Hong Kong Stream to study a Master of Arts. However, her application came with several risks:
- A prior visa cancellation in Canada, which needed to be declared and clearly explained
- An inconsistent study history—jumping from an unfinished diploma to a master’s degree
- Limited financial evidence due to irregular freelance income
- A flagged health concern during processing, requiring additional medical review
Despite these significant challenges, the Riverwood Migration team assisted her by:
- Preparing a compelling, honest and well-structured Genuine Student (GS) statement that clearly outlined her motivations, personal circumstances, and academic transition
- Offering strategic advice and helping her provide supplementary financial evidence to boost the credibility of her application
- Supporting her through the Health Undertaking process to meet health requirements
In the end, Ms G was successfully granted a student visa and is now on her way to building a new life through study and migration in Australia!
