Urgent Update! Victoria Announces Closing Date for 2024–25 ROI Applications – Final Chance to Apply!

On the afternoon of 17 April, the Victorian Government officially announced that the Registration of Interest (ROI) portal for the 2024–25 Skilled Migration Program will close at 4:00pm (AEST) on Monday, 29 April 2024.

This marks the final window to lodge new ROI submissions for this program year—don’t miss this opportunity if you’re hoping to secure a state nomination in Victoria.

What’s on Offer?

For the 2024–25 financial year, Victoria has a total of 5,000 skilled migration nomination places, including:

• 3,000 visas under subclass 190 – for skilled migrants who can live and work permanently anywhere in Victoria.
• 2,000 visas under subclass 491 – for skilled migrants who agree to live and work in regional Victoria for 5 years, with a pathway to permanent residency.

Due to recent changes to NSW’s occupation list, which removed several popular occupations, many applicants have redirected their focus to Victoria, resulting in a significantly high number of ROI submissions—far exceeding available nomination spots.

Still a Chance to Be Invited

The Victorian Government has confirmed that not all nomination places have been used yet. Applicants who have already received a pre-invite will continue to be processed, and those currently in the ROI pool still have a chance to be invited, until all allocations are exhausted.

If you receive a pre-invite:

• You must submit your state nomination application within 14 days.
• Once nominated, you’ll have 60 days to submit your visa application – so timing and document preparation are absolutely critical.

Are You Eligible?

To apply for skilled migration in Victoria, applicants generally need to meet the federal eligibility criteria, including:

• Be under 45 years old;
• Achieve competent English (e.g., IELTS 6.0 in each band or equivalent);
• Obtain a positive skills assessment in a nominated occupation;
• Have an occupation listed on the relevant skilled occupation list for subclass 190 or 491;
• Score at least 65 points in the SkillSelect EOI system.

For subclass 190, Victoria does not require additional points or work experience.

For subclass 491:

• If applying onshore, you must be working in your nominated occupation in regional Victoria;
• If applying offshore, there is no work requirement, but priority will be given to applicants in health, social work, and education sectors.
