Tasmania skilled migration update – processing progress for 2024–25 program year

On 26 May 2025, Migration Tasmania released an update on the processing status of skilled migration nomination applications. Below is a summary of the key details:

1. Processing Timeline

The oldest nomination application yet to be allocated for assessment was submitted on 1 May 2025. This suggests that applications submitted before this date may already be under assessment, and applicants are encouraged to monitor their application status closely.

2. Status by Visa Category

(A) Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)

  • Nomination places used: Out of 2,100 available places, 1,925 have been used, indicating that places are nearly exhausted.

  • Pending decisions: 120 applications have been lodged and are awaiting outcome.

  • Invitations not yet accepted: 115 invitations have been issued but not yet accepted, potentially indicating applicants are still deciding.

  • EOIs on hand (ROIs): 283 ROIs are currently in the pool awaiting further assessment.

(B) Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 491)

  • Nomination places used: Of 760 available places, 731 have been used.

  • Pending decisions: 43 applications are currently awaiting decision.

  • Invitations not yet accepted: 43 invitations remain unaccepted.

  • EOIs on hand (ROIs): 260 ROIs are currently held in the system.

Applicants with at least one Orange Plus attribute will be granted an Orange Pass, and are highly likely to receive a nomination invitation within six months. The more attributes you have, the faster the process is expected to be.

All 190 applicants with at least one Orange Plus attribute and who are working in a skilled occupation will be invited before the end of the program year.

3. End-of-Year Processing Arrangements (2024–25)

With around 90% of nomination places already used or offered, Migration Tasmania may restrict new ROI submissions in the coming weeks.

Even if all places are fully allocated, applicants can still submit a nomination application. However, approved nominations will be held over and finalised in the 2025–26 program year once new places become available. Further updates will be published on the official website and via Migration Tasmania’s communications.

Tasmania’s nomination program remains highly competitive, and processing is proceeding in an orderly fashion. With places running out and policy updates on the horizon, applicants are encouraged to:

  • Stay informed about nomination progress

  • Monitor the status of their application

  • Begin preparing early for the next program year

  • Seek advice to strengthen their eligibility under current and future criteria
